YouTube
YouTube is a video hosting and streaming platform enabling anyone to upload, watch, comment on, and share video content. It anchors global video culture and hosts everything from music and news to long-form education and creator businesses.
The company was founded in 2005 by Steve Chen, Chad Hurley, and Jawed Karim, three early PayPal employees, and is based in San Bruno, California. YouTube was acquired by Google in November 2006 for approximately $1.65 billion in stock.
This deck is the Series A pitch used before the Google acquisition. Sequoia Capital led the round, investing when video on the open web was still bandwidth-limited and monetization was largely unproven — an early example of infrastructure-adjacent bets that later defined internet consumer scale.
